Iron Ring
Once upon a time there was a chemistry student who was deeply in love to professors daughter – a beautiful girl called Marium. He used to assist professors work in the lab and often happened that Marium came to bring a lunch to her Dad. Student was very shy and afraid to speak with her to tell her about his feelings. But he decided to make very special gift for his beloved – an engagement ring, which is made from pure iron, synthesized from his own blood.
As in average human body contains about 7 gram of iron, and about 3 gram of this iron can be found in human blood. From 3 grams of iron the small ring can be done already. So our student’s plan was fallowing: to take his blood with normal amounts as about 450 grams over every two months. So he believed that during two years he would segregate enough iron to make a modest engagement ring.
And don’t think about iron as an ugly, rusty metal; in fact it is because we usually are not dealing with pure iron, and then it contains carbon and other components that make it more vulnerable to corrosion. Pure iron does not corrode; in ancient Egypt it was more valuable as gold and it was used in royal jewellery.
After first bloodletting student was working hard to get all iron from blood, but nevertheless he got only about 50% of amount he expected. To accelerate process he shortened interval between two bloodletting’s to 1.5 month and finally to 4 weeks. Then he gradually increased blood amounts…
But his health weakened and at the end he was very sick already. He felt very tired, he had headache, he got pale skin and brittle hair.
Finally he finished the ring. It was small and modest iron ring, but after all it gleamed like silver. He engraved inside to the ring the phrase: “Marium, my heart belongs to You!” Finished engraving, our student felt very tired and fell sleep…
…And he never woke up. Professor found students dead body lying on the floor of his lab in the next morning…

You probably want to know what happened with the Ring. Well, it was not found then. Nobody knew about it. Our student held it in hand and dropped to the floor when he fell sleep. Anyway after a year or so, professor found a strange ring, which was dedicated to Marium. He gave it to his daughter and it was fitting perfectly. Since she’s been always wearing it.
But sometimes She feels like fragile heartbeats coming from inside of the Ring…
